“There Was Interest” – Manager Confirms Spurs Man Was A Target During The Window – Doesn’t Rule Out January Deal

|

It’s been reported this week that Celtic were heavily interested in doing a deal for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama during the last transfer window, and there’s an expectation they could return in the January window in order to get a deal over the line.

During the summer window there was speculation linking the 28-year-old Kenyan international with a return to Celtic Park but as the window progressed, it seemed that Club Brugge were in the driving seat, albeit nothing came of the deal before the European deadline came to a close.

The Scottish Sun have now reported that manager Neil Lennon has confirmed they were tracking the player, and he wouldn’t rule out a return when the window reopened in the New Year.

“There was interest but it never got off the ground. Could we look at it again in January? We’ll have to wait and see. We might not want to with the balance of the squad now, as well as the affordability.”

Given it seems that Wanyama is heavily down manager Mauricio Pochettino’s pecking list this season, I think most probably expected him to have already moved on, so if the player is open to it, a deal in January certainly wouldn’t be out of the question.
